What is a cobbler? Made in America, the homemade cherry cobbler.
"Without the resources of brick ovens...colonial cooks often made cobblers in pots over an open fire," according to "The Oxford Encyclopedia of food and Drink in America, Volume 2." Fruit cobblers are a quick and easy dessert that combines a biscuit type bread topping with fruit. Cobblers are prepared in a deep cooking dish or skillet where the juices of the fruit often bubble up through the crust while cooking. Folks enjoy different parts of the cobbler and while many focus on the juice and fruit, I prefer a good helping of the crust or bread topping combined with the fruit. Our cherry biscuit cobbler mix is enhanced in flavor with the sweet cream buttermilk and real butter powder we use in our mix. Julia's Pantry offers a delicious line of easy to bake dessert mixes to serve your family and a warm buttery cobbler where you only add fruit and milk. My son's favorite is a warm blueberry cobbler topped with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream.
