Hi there! My name is Janie Dickens, and I am the owner of Healing Green Farms! I am so excited to be able to share some information about myself and my business with you!
I’m a single mom of 3: Ryan, 22, Gracie 19, and Nathan 12. I’ve enjoyed raising my family in this community and look forward to being a part of it for many years to come! My parents are native to Fuquay Varina and Willow Springs. In fact, Healing Green Farms is my maternal grandparents’ farm and has been in my family for about 100 years. My mother was born there in the white farmhouse adjacent to the marketplace. My father was raised a few miles away in Fuquay off Wagstaff road. Because my father was a naval officer, we lived many other places, but I wound up here in 2002 due to career opportunities, and the rest is history! My father thinks it is the ultimate irony that his only child settled in the one place on Earth he thought he would never live again. But we are pleased that he, too, is back in Fuquay!
The idea for Healing Green Farms started in early 2019 when a friend who knew we were CBD users, and frequently promoted the use of CBD, mentioned that new federal legislation would allow industrial hemp to be grown in NC. I was not satisfied with the quality of most of the products on the market, and since my daughter was using them, the idea of producing something cleaner and more reliable was very appealing. I found some local farmers with a little bit of knowledge and experience—there were not many around since it was such a new crop—and we got to work. Healing Green Farms sold its first bottle of CBD oil on June 28, 2019.
We produce sublingual CBD oil for humans and pets, topical salves and oils, CBD-infused elderberry syrup, and CBD-infused bath salts. Everything we make is produced by hand. . .from the plants themselves that give us the CBD to putting the labels on the bottles. It takes about 9 months from seed to bottle when you factor in the plant growth and processing.
One interesting note is that we’ve partnered with a local homeopath and herbalist to create our proprietary herbal blends as well as our topical products. Danielle Rodriguez of Hummingbird Wellness builds those products from absolute scratch—starting with beeswax from family bees! Many other CBD companies purchase a mass-produced salve or lotion base then add CBD to that base and sell it as their product. We want complete confidence in every component of our products and insist on a level of quality that can only be achieved when you manufacture in-house. We are grateful for the partnership with Danielle!
The Community Marketplace came to life quite unexpectedly. When the town of Fuquay-Varina denied me a booth at the town festival in the fall of 2019 (apparently they were not comfortable with CBD) I had the germ of an idea to host something at the farm eventually. That was percolating in the background as Covid struck and we were all struggling to make ends meet. Quite at the last minute, I made the decision to host an event over Memorial Day weekend 2020 in an effort to help my neighbors safely get out of the house and provide a venue for our local economy to see a little action. I had no idea this would grow and be a weekly/bi-monthly event! All of us at Healing Green Farms & The Community Marketplace have been hard at work through these winter months making improvements, with even bigger plans for this season and the year to come. It feels great to be part of helping support local small business through our efforts!
